Wordy title, but hear me out! My fellow bloggers and Instagrammers can attest to the fact that acing Instagram is hard. As much as we want to boost our own brand, that just isn’t happening. We can thank IG’s terrible algorithms. Instead of seeing our friends’ posts on the app, we see celebrities and influencers. While that’s great and all, that isn’t really why I use this platform.
I started using Instagram to showcase my life through pictures. I think that’s why a lot of people use this platform. But more recently and completely unexpected in the social media marketing world, influencers have been changing the way Instagram could be used. For bloggers, it is an incredible and creative way to market your blog and your brand. Huge props to the ‘gram for changing the way social media is used, but with that change comes difficulties using their platform. IG is fantastic for businesses because people who follow businesses with high engagement will naturally see the business’s posts more often. Downside, you miss out on seeing your friends’ posts due to this algorithm made to help businesses.
Trying to get more exposure for my image and my brand included 30 hashtags, copious planning of my IG grid and scheduled posts. Instagram officially became exhausting to use, and that is not what I signed up for. I, like many other microbloggers, find this process to be incredibly taxing and the results are hardly worth it. It turns out you don’t get as much exposure regardless of the hashtags, timed posts and pretty themes. At the same time, the engagement you gain is temporary and you find yourself a part of the follow-unfollow game.
What I’m going to do now is post what I want, when I want. I do like hashtags but I am going to use the ones that I feel relate to me and the picture versus what gets the most exposure. What I also want to start doing is pay attention to liking and commenting my friend’s posts more that the influencers I follow. Reason being, I have been noticing that I hardly see my friend’s posts and if I engage in the content I want to see, I should be seeing more of it. TBD on the results. I don’t know if this will actually work. I do like the pretty theme and I find a zen editing my pictures, but it is also not the end of the world if I post an experience or memory that doesn’t go with my theme.
With that being said, drop your IG handles below! I have been scrolling too much and I’ve been caught up with my friends’ content. 🙂
Until next time,
